No mida ometi teha?

Ma olen mõisa hull. Kohe ikka täiesti hull. Mäletate, alles eelmine suvi külastasime me Idaga Tartust Tallinna sõites läbi kõik teele jäävad mõisad? Ungru mõisavaremed on mu täielik lemmikkoht, Kõue mõis võitis eelmisel aastal mu südame, kuid sel nädalavahetusel külastatud Padise mõis pakub mõlemale tugevat konkurentsi.

Vähemalt jõudsime me Idaga veel rohkem järeldusele jõuda, et üks mõis on meie loomulik elupaik, sest me oleme mõlemad hingelt printsessid . Padise kloostri varemed kohe sealsamas. Põnev nii lastele kui täiskasvanutele. Romantiline. Huvitav. Ilus.  No on raskem ideaalsemat kohta puhkuseks leida!

Oluline on see, mida mu laps tunneb.

Ilma midagi tegemata? Et kukuks sülle nagu teoreetline lotovõit.

IMG_0039IMG_0031IMG_0028IMG_0087IMG_0090IMG_0095I think I have visited quite many hotels and it is hard to impress me, because I think I have seen it all. I am either a fool or know nothin about anything, but it is always possible to impress guests with something. Padise manor took me with a big “wow”.  It a Mothers Day present to me and it is hard to find a more suitable present for me. I JUST LOVE MANORS and dream of my own all the time- Last year Kau manor won my heart, but now Padise (so close to our home) gives it a huge competitions. I dont think it is actually fair to compare these to hotels, both have their advantages and disadvantages, but damn…Padise is so pretty. With the ruins of the old abbey nearby. So much to do for small and smaller, big and bigger. So interesting, educating and pretty. Me and Ida really felt like princesse. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

It was an absolute perfect present. And more than the hotel and restaurant I loved the present from Ida. “These flowers I picked for you,” she said. It melted my heart. Such a special feeling to be a mom.

Lugusid rubriigist “Reisile minuga”/ When I travel things happen vol1000

Niisiis.

Korraks leidsin ma end mõttelt, et me veedame öö lennujaamas.

Reality missugune!

What could go wrong when I travel? If you know me, almost everything is possible: I never seem to travel without adventures. Today I first had bought ticket to a later train than planned. Not actually a problem, but as I had way too much liquid grapes yesterday, I just wanted to get to the hotel. I hoped that we are allowed to take the earlier train with the wrong ticket. I don´t know if child, a sad face and thousands of bags did the trick but we were allowed on board.

We arrived at hotel and all I was thinking about was bed. When I tried to pay for the room it turned out my card was either not working or I had not enough money, anyway there I was with my bags and Ida. Not being able to pay. We´ll sleeping in the airport it is then. It actually was the original plan, because the flight goes so early that no trains come from Lillehammer. At the last moment I got a very good offer from a hotel near Gardermoen that for Ida´s sake I chose the hotel.

So. Then I thought I can transfer money to hotel´s account from Marek´s. I knew he had miney, I have access to his account. BUT it turned out that 30 minutes earlier he had taken out the money. Back to sleeping in airport.

And you know what happened. The person working in the reception paid  for the room. Of course I will have to transfer money to him, but this kind of kindness really surprised my socks off.

This is what can happen when I travel:)

Hiking in my ballerinas

A week ago I was so lucky to visit this lovely little mountainhotel in Rondane naturepark. It is the oldest and said to be the prettiest nature parks in whole Norway. It is hard to describe the beauty of this park with photos and words, you have to visit the park. Close your eyes and sense the mountains. Over 2000 metre-high tops decked in snow, the rays of sun on landscape, tranquilillity. The sun is shining but the temperature is low, the wind is blowing. The landscape with towering mountains is almost magical and the knowledge that you are in one of the most beautiful places in Norway makes it special.

In the middle of  this beauty one will find Høvringen Fjellstue. It is one of the oldest mountain lodges in Rondane which has been in the same family for more than 120 years. Their guestbook dates back to 1903, but they have been welcoming guests since the 1890’s. Today the hotel is run by 3. and 4. generation – mother Marit and son Tormod. They are the ones welcoming you when you enter the fjellstue.
It is hard to see this hotel as a hotel, as you can see history of the family in each corner of the house. Marit proudly shows you the chair her great grandfather made. It is a strange mixture of visiting a grandmother and a museum. The warm and good feeling when sitting by the fireplace and drinking hot cocoa after a hikingtrip in the mountains.  Or sitting in the “living room” enjoying the view. And it sure is magical waking up in total quietness to these views.

I got this urge to climb the highest mountains (as they seem so near when looking from the window) the moment I opened my eyes, but unfortunatley I discovered I had forgotten my hiking boots and you do not go far in your ballerinas. The whole evening I had laughed at my husvand who had forgotten a warm jacket, guess who was laughing when I didn’t find my boots in the suitcase…

I still went for a little walk, but really at 7 AM it was quite cold, so make sure you take with you warm clothes when you go there. Even if it is summer, it is cold in the mountains. But you knew that, right?
Our room was really nice. For me it was as Norwegian as it can get. Everything from wood – I remember when I moved to Norway first time 18 years ago it confused me, I didn’t like this style too much, but this time it was like coming home to one of my hostfamilies from Rotary-times. The hotel is closed for couple of months from the end of September, but they open again in the winter and I have this crazy idea to go back there in wintertime. “Remember “Shining”?” my husand joked, but somehow I don’t think Jack Nicholson will be there waiting for us. When we go back in the winter, I hope we can stay at a cottage. It seems so cozy.
Before breakfast we played, or tried to play chess. I had never in my life played it before, it seems so complicated. My husband tried to teach me and I must say it was quite fun, but I couldn’t rememeber all the rules, so I was happy when our daughter joined in and “saved” me from defeat.
The food in this hotel is exceptional. Again I thought of one of my hostfamilies, where creamy au gratin potatoes accompanied with brown sauce, beautiful lamb and vegetables was one of the dishes which was served in the weekends or holidays where whole family got together. It tasted so good then and it tasted so good now. I didn’t remember how much I had loved the brown sauce. Our daughter seemed to enjoy the meal as well and when a child likes the food, it sure must be good…

Before you go hiking you can pack a lunch bag and fill thermos with hot coffee or tea. How sweet is this? Yes, this is a lovely hotel and I am so glad I got the oppertunity to be there with my family. I mean, I am used to visiting the hotels with my daughter, everyone already knows that, but that my husband also got to be with us, that was such a blessing.
Thank you, Høvringen Fjellstua for a wonderful stay!

“I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list.” – Susan Sontag

I feel a part of me must be a gypsy, because I really feel I could just travel around all the time. Just take my backpack (+family) and go! Without planning the details. Just spontaneously. Yesterday I found myself thinking that some of my best travel experiences are the ones where you get the idea and go. Like the one many many years ago to Palanga. We sat in the car in Tartu in the morning and by evening we were in Palanga, Lithuania. I have not been to Lithuania as a tourist before, I mena I have travelled through Lithuania many times, but I didn’t know that Palanga beach is much prettier than the images in my head from the stories I had heard about the place.

To find a hotel for our stay was also spontaneous, we drove around in the city center and just picked one hotel we liked from the outside. The hotel Kerpé (LINK) had excellent location and was a cozy little hotel. Although our stay was ages ago, I read the comments on Booking.com and Tripadvisor, and based on those I still dare to recommend that hotel.

It still is one of my favorite destinations. And when I looked at the few photos we took on that trip (Yes, it was before the smart-phones:D) and I just dreamt of taking this trip again.

We  went to Palanga Amber museum and as I am a huge fan of old mansions and villas, this museum already was my cup of tea. I imagine it will be fun to visit with children as well, because  this exemplary museum holds some 25,000 pieces of amber of which over half have insects and plants trapped inside.

Have you been to Palanga? What to you recommend to visit and do?

Ma olen mitu korda varemgi öelnud, et mingi osa minust on vist mustlane, sest ma ei taha paigal olla, ma võiks kogu aeg ringi rännata. Võtaks seljakoti selga ja läheks. Eile leidsin ma end mõttelt, et minu kõige vahvamad reisikogemused ongi olnud sellised poolenisti etteplaneerimata reisid. Näiteks saja-aasta tagune nädalavahetus Palangas. Me lihtsalt istusime Tartus autosse ja hakkasime Leedu poole sõitma. Sihtpunktiks Palanga.

Me valik langes pisikeele Kerpé hotellile (LINK).

Lisaks asub see imekaunis botaanikaaias.

Uhh, ma tahaks kohe tagasi minna Palangasse! Äge reis oli. Ka te olete Palangas käinud? Mida teie soovitate külastada?  Sinna on ju kõigest kaheksa tundi autosõitu (sama palju kui Stockholmist Oslosse), võib olla võiks selle reisi uuesti ette võtta…

When I travel, things happen

Well. Whenever I travel, things happen. Especially in Sweden. Not bad things, but just small adventures that make the stays memorable. Broken cars, missing tickets, wrong destinations – this kind of things.

Last week I was on Gastronord expo in Stockholm and of course I needed a hotel to stay. I have been to Sweden thousands of times as you know, but I don’t know much about city. I mean if you tell me “Brännkyrkagatan” it says nothing to me. It can be in Södermalm or Östermalm, or further away – I don’t know. I only know Götgatan – because Emmaus second hand is located there, I know Södermalm – because Götgatan is there, I know Gamla Stan – because everyone knows that and I know Gärdet – because this is the stop where you get off subway when taking the ferry to Tallinn. That’s it.

So it does not come as a surprise to me that I at first tried to check us in to a wrong hotel. I was pretty sure that I had booked a hotel on Södermalm, but when I googled Hotel Hellsten it gave the address on Östermalm. Well, well, I thought and that’s where we headed. OF COURSE it turned out that there are two partner hotels – Hotel Hellsten on Östermalm, and Hotel Hellsten Malmgard on Södermalm! Of course. Our hotel was Hotel Hellsten Malmgard on Brännkyrkavägen 110, on SÖDERMALM.

I had choses this hotel 1) because of location in Södermalm (and yet again I didn’t suspect anything when I googled different location for its address) and 2) distance from T-bane (subway). We arrived by ferry and travelled this time without car, and for me it was very important that with suitcases, stroller and a baby (can I still call a 2,5yrs old a baby?) I don’t get into any extra adventures. And it actually extreamly easy to find the way from port to the hotel. You take line13 (Ropsten towards Norsborg) from Gärdet T-bane stop to Zinkensdamm and there it is – this romatic cozy three stars hotel. 150m to walk. Max.

The hotel has been known as Queen Christina”s Hunting Palace, the story from 1770 is in the walls. Strong colors in the rooms” walls, furniture in typical Gustavian style, some antiques from different parts of the world and articles from exciting places spiced with unexpected details. Unique original fireplaces, some of the brand Gustafsberg, are remaining in the building.
The buildings are built around around the cobblestoned yard, contributing to a cultural environment that is being experienced with graceful shivers. There is also an old chestnut tree in the yard, which was planted when the building was built 240 years ago. All this contributes to the feeling that time and the centuries stand still.

IMG_1885IMG_1868IMG_1867IMG_1841

Whenever possible I try to choose small hotels with personality for my stays. unfortunately it is not always affordable, I also feel that this hotel was quite pricy (from 1690SEK small doubel room), but still for me the stay gets another dimension when staying in hotels that are unique. Hellsten Malmgard definately is.

And the location could not be better. Just a walk from Gamla Stan, with beautiful parks nearby (the cherry trees were blossoming), peaceful and quiet. Breathtaking views. Not to forget shopping and nightlife. Södermalm, the “hipsterville” as we call it, has everything. For every taste.

MONTEL13

PS: I could write what more happened on this trip, like I lost my t-bane card at least twice, we got lost, when we tried to show my aunt HOW EASY it is to take the t-bane, we had booked return tickets back to Estonia for wrong date and I got a food poisoning, but hey…THINGS HAPPEN WHEN I TRAVEL.
